The wide canyon of wadi zarqa ma in doesn t run deep but you ll tromp through the river much of the way up as towering walls stretch overhead. Flowing southward from its sources in the mountainous area where israel syria and lebanon meet the jordan river passes through the sea of galilee and ends in the dead sea a large part of its 320 kilometre length forms the border between israel and jordan in the north and the west bank and jordan in the south. From the east in syria flows the bāniyās river. With the rain pounding down and the clouds hanging so low its hard to tell where the clouds end and the fog begins or as we islanders call it a regular november day. Jordan creek falls is a very large waterfall near the town of marblemount where its namesake creek drops over a glacially carved step in its valley and veils 588 feet in a huge booming horsetail type fall. The longest of those is the ḥāṣbānī which rises in lebanon near ḥāṣbayyā at an elevation of 1 800 feet 550 metres.

Between the two is the dan river the waters of which are particularly fresh. The jordan river has three principal sources all of which rise at the foot of mount hermon. Splashing in the waterfall and natural pools at the end of the walk 3 5km from the wadi entrance is a great way to appreciate the rugged rock walls of the valley dotted with ferns and palm trees that cling to the cliffside.
